Bluecadet was enlisted by the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, NY for an ambitious overhaul and redesign of their institutional website. The new site launches as the museum embarks on a major expansion project, “AK360,” which will raise $125MM, making it the largest campaign for a cultural institution in the history of Western New York. Bluecadet was presented with the unique challenge of creating an online presence that offers digital visitors the same visual vibrancy and sense of discovery as the physical campus.

Founded in 1862, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery houses one of the world’s most impressive collections of contemporary and modern art. The website tells the history and ambitions of this unique institution. A robust interactive timeline walks visitors through the museum’s campus from its earliest days through the upcoming AK360 expansion.

Bluecadet worked with the Albright-Knox Art Gallery to fundamentally reimagine how they would connect with visitors across their digital platforms. Central to this strategy was research into a unique taxonomy of content, helping the gallery better organize and deliver content across devices to a range of users and visitors.

An enhanced “Search the Collection” feature allows online visitors to browse the museum’s  collection, and learn more about the artists and individual works in the collection including masterworks by Kahlo, Warhol and Gauguin. Bluecadet’s redesign hopes to support the museum’s aim of making the more than 7,000 works in its collection more accessible to visitors around the world.

This storytelling will serve both to build momentum for the capital campaign but also to deliver a compelling brand and educational experience during the organization’s campus expansion.

"The Bluecadet team was a pleasure to work with. They expertly translated our newly refreshed print identity to the digital realm and activated our content with beautiful design elements and movement. They also successfully handled several complex integrations to produce the focal point of our new site: the Search the Collection section. We feel like our new website gives people a sense of what it is like to be at the Albright-Knox while providing opportunities to explore our collection and content from anywhere in the world—two of our primary goals for the redesign."
