Discovery Center

Our suite of interactive exhibits for the Gates Foundation Discovery Center illuminates global challenges and educates visitors on how they can take action to make a difference.

Telling Personal Stories

Visitors are welcomed to the Discovery Center by life-size video portraits of individuals sharing powerful, personal stories about how the Foundation has improved their lives, from a healthcare worker in India to a struggling single mother in Seattle. The high-resolution videos, edited and scored by Bluecadet’s in-house production team, put a human face to the Foundation’s work.

Cultivating Global Awareness

In the heart of the Discovery Center, a multi-user interactive floor display leverages the extraordinary data collected by the Gates Foundation to clearly illustrate the challenges they face in their mission to help all people lead healthy, productive lives.

The animated “Global Challenges” floor map is designed to provide an engaging experience for both passive and active users. Using physical pucks to navigate intuitive touchscreen tables, visitors can explore issues in detail and push their findings to the larger map.

Staying Connected

To help sustain the Gates Foundation as an institution that’s connected to contemporary discourse, we created a massive social media touch wall featuring interactive content from thought-leaders and philanthropists around the world, as well as relevant information about current events and activities at the center.

Join the Community Photo Booth

The popular photobooth invites visitors to snap a self-portrait and compose a short message to create a digital postcard that can be shared online. A mosaic of these images is displayed on a large digital wall that anchors the gallery, alongside an animated map visualizing the home states and countries of the growing Gates Foundation community.

Taking Action

The Gates Foundation Discovery Center invites visitors to “arrive curious and leave inspired.” As the culmination of the visitor experience, “Make a Plan” helps turn that inspiration into action. A scrapbook-style interface guides users through stories of individuals who have made a difference in local communities along with concrete steps they can take to begin changing their own.
