Natural History Museums of LA County

A Digital Experience Of, For, & With L.A.

Visitors interacting with the rich history of the museums

Project Overview

It’s not well known that L.A.’s Natural History Museum, the La Brea Tar Pits, and the William S. Hart Museum are part of one organization. With the launch of nhmlac.org, the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County is unifying the three institutions and what the museums share—accessible and engaging experiences created of, for, and with the people of L.A. County.

A Unified Design System

A new design system unites three museums and puts a new focus on featuring each location with beautiful photography and compelling video.

Facilitating Visitor Discovery

The new navigation approach includes features that aggregate related events, programming, and stories by a particular interest.

the site's calendar allows visitors to discover different events at all three sites

We do something extraordinary onsite and out in the community—we connect past with present, science, nature and culture with people, and L.A. with the world. That’s not easy to represent digitally, but I believe this new site reflects what sets us apart and will be an engaging resource for the general public and the scientific community alike.
