Business Development Apprentice

Job Summary

Bluecadet is growing, and we’re looking for a Business Development Apprentice to join our team in Philadelphia! Our Business Development and Strategy team take the lead in creating and fostering new client relationships, identifying new business and project opportunities, and ultimately making the case for potential clients to choose Bluecadet. We’re looking for an associate to help support our team track new business leads, create proposals, and keep our internal processes organized.

Bluecadet is an award-winning, internationally-recognized experience design agency focused on producing transformative digital products and environments. We work with cultural institutions, universities, and mission-driven organizations and brands. Past clients include MoMA, Harvard, Princeton, The Smithsonian Institution, Doctors Without Borders, National Geographic, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Job Details

What you’ll do:

  • Support proactive and reactive business development efforts at a growing experience design agency

  • Track information about lead generation and conversion for new projects, track leads and manage inbound business development requests

  • Track and report on the status of proposals

  • Assist in developing budgets and price estimates using standard models

  • Closely review RFPs and new business leads and create project briefs with pertinent information to brief the Managing Director and Director of Strategy

  • Support the team in vetting leads

  • Put together proposals, start to finish, using a template and strategic vision determined by a larger team

  • Coordinate and provide strategic insight in meetings between the core Business Development team and discipline leads to determine vision for proposals

  • Actively look and pursue avenues for proactive business development – conferences, talks, disciplines, etc.

  • Identify and develop strategic relationships with partners or potential clients as applicable

  • Establish and maintain ongoing client relationships as applicable

  • Identify and help to develop strategic relationships with partners or potential clients

  • Participate in activities needed to support the workflow and internal management functions of the team

  • Support other business development team members as needed


The ideal candidate is:

  • Someone with sales, marketing, organizational, or development experience in an integrated/digital agency or cultural organization, in an internship or full-time capacity.

  • Driven and detail-oriented, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Organized, loves spreadsheets and to-do lists, and enjoys keeping track of the status of tasks and delegating.

  • A persuasive communicator and strategic thinker – we work to understand how Bluecadet can help each client achieve their unique needs and goals, and need strong strategic communication for this to come across verbally or through written and designed proposals.

  • A self-starter and implementer of process – many of our business development efforts have recently built processes that can be continually refined, and you’re excited to improve and implement process.

  • Proficient in the Google Suite, Keynote, AirTable – or ready and excited to learn.

  • Passionate about arts, culture and design. An eye for design and design sensibilities are a must for putting together our proposals, which our clients have described as “beautiful documents.”

An introduction to the team, and how you’ll fit in:

  • The Business Development and Strategy team is a tight-knit core team of three – the Director of Strategy, Managing Director, and Strategist – with two other Senior Strategists nested in each of our disciplines. The core Business Development team will take the lead in vetting leads and creating proposals, pulling in Senior Strategists to determine the direction a potential lead could take.

  • You’ll be housed directly in our core team and closely with the Strategist, who will give you the tools you need to track leads, build proposals from start to finish, and coordinate and organize internal processes.


Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree Required

0-2 years of professional experience (this could include internships or employment)
