Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum

Re-imagining the Onboarding Experience

Visitors of all ages interact with the touchwall

Project Overview

As the most visited museum in the country, the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum is home to our shared space history. We built them a three-in-one experience that allows every visitor to follow their own curiosity through the museum collection—before, during, and long after their visit.

Our biggest task was integrating their 60,000 artifact database across three platforms: a website, a mobile app, and a massive 200-square-foot touch wall installed in their astronomical entry hall. Now visitors can explore stories, view the collection, and curate their visit on any or across all three.

  • The museum website is a hub for information on how to visit the museum but also a place to learn more information on many related topics.

Users browsing at home can star their favorite objects and stories, then seamlessly access their personalized NASM collection on the app during their museum visit.

The mobile app provides a seamless tool to enhance a visitors museum experience before, during and after their trip.
  • While inside of the museum the app provides a easy way to view starred locations, learn more about exhibits and enhance their knowledge on topics of interest.
  • A visitor interacts with a digital display.
